When I first started blogging, it was simply something to do during my summer to keep me occupied and to kind of remember everything. When I started this blog, I meant for it to kind of be a way to keep everyone up to speed on my college life and get a look inside my head (which usually makes sense to no one but me. Ask Matt, he knows). However, since I haven't started college yet, I obviously haven't been blogging much about college. I didn't think this would be a place where I would share my beliefs, but that's what's been happening. Besides, social media can be a great force for good. Like Al Fox's blog. I have a couple of things to share today along that line.
1. I went visiting teaching for the first time today, with my mom and old Young Women leader. It was actually fun, except for the part where my mom leaned over to me during sacrament meeting and whispered, "If we actually go today, you're giving the lesson." WHAT? Me, give the lesson, when I have never been visiting teaching before? And when we were going right after church?! I didn't think so. Fortunately my mom took pity on me and read the message for July during Sunday School so that I didn't have to. :)
2. I get to go on splits with the missionaries on Wednesday! That one came as a surprise. I was in the middle of doing my hair this morning when my mom got home from meetings and informed me that the ward mission leader wanted me to go on splits with the missionaries this week. I'm actually excited about that. I don't know if I'm going on a mission, and it's a question that I've gotten asked a lot actually. Before President Monson's announcement in October 2012, it was just the boys who were getting asked "are you going on a mission?" during and after high school. Well, the boys still get asked that question, but now the girls hear it at about the same time. I'm excited to get a brief snapshot of what full time missionary work is like, and maybe it will help me decide.
3. Our bishopric were the speakers in sacrament meeting today. Our bishop gave a great analogy about eternal life that I want to share. You can't put a price on eternal life, but Bishop said he tried this to get the young men to understand a little more. Suppose you had a very wealthy friend who offered you $10,000,000 if you would just go to church every Sunday and do your very best to live the gospel. Would you do it? Our bishop reported that the young men said they would definitely do it. Our Heavenly Father is incredibly wealthy-He is the Creator of not only our world and everything in in (which includes that $10,000,000), but of countless other worlds as well. He is offering us "all that [he] hath" (Doctrine & Covenants 84:38) if we will go to church every Sunday and live the gospel the best that we possibly can.
That put eternal life into perspective for me. I had never thought about it that way before, but I know it is true. Our Father in Heaven loves us so much that He will give us everything that He has if we will live like His Son Jesus Christ. That's incredible.
Heavenly Father, the most perfect and loving Being, is our Father, and we are His children. He loves us with an infinite, unconditional love, and I am so grateful for that. His gospel has been restored to the earth today through Joseph Smith, and I know that living the gospel helps us to experience true happiness. That is my testimony to you today.
This blog will begin to have ramblings about college and my life, I promise. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is important to me too, so continue to expect posts about that as well :)
Love,
Racquel
